Mission accomplished! Alan and Jenny Boardman more successful than ever in Uganda

Mission accomplished! Alan and Jenny Boardman are more successful in Uganda than ever!

The Eyedrop for Uganda campaign, led by Mijas philanthropists Alan & Jenny Boardman, is now complete. It has brought real hope to the vulnerable rural communities of Uganda.

The generous Costa del Sol residents in the inland and central areas of the region, together with the UK contributions, supported the initiative to deliver essential aid for the couple during their recent adventure.

Costa del Sol receives support from the entire region

Twenty-two private donors contributed over EUR1,850, supplemented by a heartfelt donation of 25 hand-knitted teddies from a lady in Estepona. Twenty-two private donors contributed over €1,850, supplemented by a heartfelt donation of 25 hand-knitted teddies from a lady in Estepona.

Alan and Jenny in Uganda were guided by Erasmus T.Godfrey to distribute aid throughout the Bwindi Impenetrable Park, and amongst children from Think Africa Academy Nursery School and Fund A Child Centre. The pair distributed 1,511 pairs, giving villagers with poor vision a chance to see clearly, feel confident and regain their dignity. 400 pairs of shoes were given to schoolchildren as a comfort, protection and pride for attending class.

There are more glasses, shoes, school materials and even teddy-bears!

Other items included 1,010 exercise books with 96 pages, 1,555 pencils and pens, 290 colored pencils (including felt-tipped), 494 sharpeners/erasers, 227 felt pens, 162 crayons, 39 toothbrushes and 2,000 adhesive plasters.

A touching moment was when the couple reunited Desire Namanya. Desire Namanya is a nurse who joined the team the year before, and she travelled for six hours, despite her exams, to be there.

In the final act, remaining funds, equivalent to €125 from an advantageous purchase of exercise books, were used at the recommendation of their Entebbe hotel to support Good Samaritan Orphanage School. The bag was filled with pens, pencils and rulers.

Godfrey thanked the donors in a sincere letter. The gifts had restored dignity and confidence to Godfrey’s community, as well as reminded them that they weren’t forgotten.

Boardmans, Costa del Sol Community and their Success

The Boardmans are humbled and proud to say that the generosity of the Costa del Sol has changed hundreds of lives. They believe the community’s ability to create lasting change is a testament to the fact that compassion can be spread across continents. Well done Boardmans!

Alan is back at Fibbers in Torreblanca on February 10, for his famous charity fun quiz at 2.30pm to raise vital funds for local charitable causes. Don’t miss it!
