Clifford Wildgoose, a 76-year old British pensioner, has gone missing during a holiday at Puerto Banus in Marbella. His family is in distress, and an urgent police investigation was launched.
Around 2am, Saturday 20 September, the retired property developer, originally from Whitby (North Yorkshire), was last seen in Patrick’s 19th Hole Bar at Marbella marina. Wildgoose, a retired property developer from Whitby in North Yorkshire, was supposed to fly to Manchester later that day from Malaga Airport but did not appear. This raised concerns about his safety.
Wildgoose’s daughter, Melanie Hall, who is a member of the family, stated that “We are all very worried.” I’m beside myself.” She explained that her father was limited in his mobility because of a recent replacement knee, and noted he could “not walk very far”. Wildgoose is a father to five daughters from Ashton-under-Lyne in Tameside. He left his passport and phone at the apartment of a friend located approximately 30 minutes away from Puerto Banus. At the time of his disappearance, he was only carrying a few euros and a credit card.
The missing man’s cards were used in a Puerto Banus shop after his disappearance
Adding to the mystery, several transactions were recorded on Wildgoose’s bank card after he vanished, including a £7 purchase at a minmarket near the bar and other small payments, such as one at La Playa Banus. Hall said that he was unsure about the transactions. “We’re not sure if it is my dad, or if somebody has his wallet.” The absence of timestamps in the transactions complicates efforts to trace Wildgoose’s movements. This raises fears of foulplay or confusion. Wildgoose, who was “not feeling well”, and “a bit confused” that morning, may have been involved.
Wildgoose, who was once a resident of Marsden near Huddersfield and is described as “chatty”, “friendly” or “outgoing”, is well known in the area. Hall, a member of his family, first raised the alarm via social media. He posted, “Missing Person last seen at Patrick’s 19th Hole Bar.” Clifford Wildgoose is 76 years old, from the UK. The family is extremely concerned.” So far, little has been learned about his whereabouts. Hall contacted Hospital Costa del Sol. Staff refused to confirm that Wildgoose has been admitted. They directed her to police. She also contacted British Embassy. Yorkshire Police is assisting. Wildgoose’s solicitor friend who was traveling with him has informed Spanish officials.
Hall confirmed that the Spanish police is investigating bank card transactions. However, they haven’t contacted Hall directly. Friends who were with Wildgoose will be leaving Spain soon. As a result, the family, which is “worried ill” and desperately seeking answers, remains in Manchester. The family is urging anyone who has information on the whereabouts of their grandfather to come forward. Anyone who has knowledge of the whereabouts of Clifford can call the National Police on 091, 062 for the Guardia Civil, or email the missing persons department of the police on colaboracion-cndes@interior.es.
