Massive new sports complex planned for Mijas

Mijas to get a new massive sports complex

Mijas council have advanced plans to build a state-of-the-art sports facility in the Dos Elías area of town. The development will provide residents with modern indoor and outdoors sports facilities, as they can also watch large scale sporting events.

Location and Site Details

Construction has targeted two adjacent municipal plots totalling over 11,300 square metres – one plot measuring 4,510 m² for the covered pavilion, the other covering 6,826 m² dedicated to outdoor leisure areas.

Local authorities have chosen to place the complex on the corner of Calle Vicente Aleixandre Camino de Campanales. This strategic location will make it easier for local athletes to reach.

Key indoor facilities

Plans feature a unique covered multi-sports pavilion. Fans of basketball and handball will enjoy high-quality indoor installation. Three grandstands will provide ample seating for spectators during public events. Other amenities include a yoga room, changing facilities and medical offices. A moveable partition allows simultaneous training or competitions for several teams in disciplines such as artistic gymnastics. Designers have also considered a long-court layout with grandstands on both sides.

Sports and green space

The project includes an Olympic-size pool that meets national competition standards. Users will also enjoy a cutting-edge 7-aside football pitch on artificial turf.

To complement the outdoor activities, two padel courts will be built. Green zones will include trees, gardens and pathways, as well as benches, pergolas and lighting at night. There will also a playground dedicated to children and a covered marquee for spectators of open-air activities.

Underground parking is a solution for those who want to park their car underground.

The developers have built a one-level parking garage beneath the complex, with a maximum capacity of 230 vehicles. Infrastructure for public use will provide convenience to visitors.

Current project status, timeline and budget

  • Mijas Town Hall has awarded the technical design contract valued at more than €140,000. The bids were due on January 7th.
  • The selected contractor will be able to deliver the detailed project in a timeframe of 135 days. Mid-2020 is the completion date.
  • After project approval, the final construction costs and timeline are revealed.

The project will change the way people think about and interact with each other. Don Elías The neighbourhood can be transformed into a vibrant sports and community centre. Residents and athletes are looking forward to improved recreational opportunities in the near future.
