MIjas rally prodigy competes in top-level racing at 16 years old – Costa News Spain

Juanma Grigera (16 years old) is the son of Argentinian rally pilot Laureano Grigera. The Grigera family now resides in Mijas. He has been described by legendary rally pilot Carlos Sainz’s co-pilot as ‘the future of rallies.’

The 16-year old Argentinian driver is one of the brightest talents in motorsport. Born in Argentina, his parents moved to Mijas for his rally career to flourish. This shows their dedication and determination to achieve their son’s dreams of reaching the World Rally Championship.

Grigera started his rally career at a very young age. Four years old, Grigera was already competing at junior quad races. In 2024 he was only 15 years old when he drove a Toyota Aygo for the CERT Rally Car series in the X Rally Ciudad de Granada. The event was personal for him as he’d once watched it as a child during a holiday when Sébastien Loeb raced there. He wanted to earn a Super License in 2025. This is a crucial step towards higher-level competition.

Already, he has achieved impressive feats. Grigera made his asphalt debut at the Rally Valle del Guadiato in the Copa Kobe de Rally with his father Laureano Grigera. He is a seasoned copilot who has won over 190 podiums. In 2025 he was third in the championship after reaching the podium of the G-3 Ice Rally in Andorra. His father, Laureano Grigera, the seasoned co-pilot with over 190 podiums, served as his navigator.

Grigera has recently been testing for Rally3 (260cv car) in Madrid and excelled in the PAST Rally3 Trophy Iberia trial. On March 28, he will begin competing in Rally3 at Rally Casinos do Algarve, Portugal.
