Mijas Town Council published a municipal order urging owners of property to maintain and clean the building facades and outsides. Safety, hygiene, as well as the beauty and aesthetics of the surrounding area were cited.
Published on February 18, this directive is in line with Article 17 from the Municipal Ordinance on Coexistence and Citizen Safety. This ordinance mandates that property owners maintain their homes in good condition.
The local council’s message is a gentle reminder of the municipal rules which state that property owners must keep their properties in good shape, clean, and well-presented. According to municipal regulations, property owners are required to keep their facades clean, which may include frequent painting and removing hazards. They must also make sure that no laundry is left out for public viewing. Landowners with gardens or other land plots must maintain them, and keep the area free of any rubbish, clutter or flammable items.
Mijas Pueblo, declared a Historic-Artistic Site by the Spanish government in 1969, is a place that requires such measures because of its traditional character, beautiful location, and dependence on tourism. This ruling, however, applies to the entire municipality. Not just Mijas Pueblo.
