In a joint press release, both companies confirmed that Spanish second hand fashion retailer Micolet had expanded its presence into Portugal following the acquisition of Portuguese MyCloma.

The deal will help Micolet to expand its customer base, digital reach, and infrastructure in the rapidly growing Iberian fashion circular market.

Micolet and MyCloma

Micolet – a company that sells pre-owned clothes online – said the integration with MyCloma was part of its growth strategy to optimise its distribution network, and expand its reach in Portugal (as reported by FashionUnited).

The merger will include MyCloma’s commercial structure and customer base, with a goal to consolidate “a more competitive platform within a context marked by increasing business concentration and the requirement for operational efficiency.”

MyCloma described the agreement as “a natural progression” in its mission of extending the life cycle and encouraging more responsible consumption.

The company confirmed to have informed customers of the change directly, through social media and personalised messages for those with products currently on sale.

The integration process involves redirecting MyCloma’s website to Micolet’s Portuguese domain. This will centralise operations and ease user migration.

According to the announcement the deal would also strengthen Micolet’s infrastructure and digital capabilities. This would allow the retailer a better chance to compete in an increasingly consolidated recommerce marketplace.

Second-hand clothing industry

The rapid growth of the second-hand clothing industry was recently highlighted by the recent acquisition of Spanish resale site Wallapop by South Korean tech giant Naver.
