The worlds of haute cuisine and junior sports development have spectacularly collided in Benahavís, often dubbed the ‘dining room of the Costa del Sol’.
The inaugural Gastro Junior Golf Day was successfully hosted at The Westin La Quinta Golf Resort & Spa, uniting six of Málaga province’s top Michelin-starred chefs with six of its most promising young golfers.
The innovative event, a strategic exhibition of two of the town’s greatest assets – gastronomy and golf – had the role of encouraging an exchange of skills, knowledge, and passion between two high-achieving groups.

They were coupled with up-and-coming golf talents from the local community: Manuela Araujo Guerrero, Máxime Vervaet, Thomas Vervaet, Kianni Guerrero Mena, Valeria Rodriguez, and Jose Luis Castilla Ruiz.
Mayoral support of local excellence
The event, presided over by Jose Antonio Mena the Mayor of Benahavis was a demonstration of the town’s commitment to nurturing young talent.
Mayor Mena said, “It’s vital to support young talent, in both sport and gastronomy. These are two fundamental pillars that make up the identity of Benahavis.” “This event perfectly represents who we’re about: a municipal committed to excellence and training for the next generation.”
All junior participants belong to the Benahavis Municipal Golf School. It was founded in 2009 and is supported by the Council.
From fairway to Kitchen
A unique exchange of knowledge took place on this day. The chefs were introduced to golf’s basic principles by the young golfers. Michelin-starred chefs taught future athletes how to make simple, healthy recipes to fuel their training and competition schedules.
A special educational kit with recipes from the chefs was created and distributed to participants and guests. The idea is to teach healthy eating habits that will last long after the putt.
