Melody’s Malaga made dress wows Eurovision fans

Melody’s Malaga dress impresses Eurovision fans

The Spanish entry Melody, a Malaga native, stole the show at the Eurovision 2025 inaugural ceremony in Basel, Switzerland. She wore a stunning dress in black and gold designed by Rafael Urquizar.

The stunning gown, symbolising, we are told, ‘power and femininity’, was meticulously designed to highlight Melody’s diva presence, according to the designer’s Instagram post. Urquizar’s team was thrilled with the response to the design. It described the process as an exciting and challenging adventure.

The dress has an open neckline with gold sleeves and a high collar on the left. The black sleeveless side flows into the long skirt. Melody was able to make the dress her own by sharing it on social media. Rafael Urquizar began his career as a designer in the family workshop of Malaga after completing secondary school. In 1988, he studied at La Esmod International Fashion Group Paris and launched a collection in Munich’s Avantgarde Fashion Salon the same year. In 1999, he opened his atelier at Calle San Juan 12 in Malaga, a three-storey space dedicated to prêt-à-couture, bespoke haute couture, and bridal wear. Urquizar showcased his collections at Cibeles Madrid Wedding in 2014 and at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, 2025.

Eurovision’s viewership has been on a downward trend in recent years. However, the situation is complex and varies by platform and country. According to European Broadcasting Union’s (EBU), Eurovision’s TV audience peaked in 2016, but has declined since. In 2022 it will reach 161 millions across 34 countries.

Melody, from Spain, is the frontrunner in terms of visuals even before the finals begin. The show starts Saturday at 9pm.
