The coastal trail event and hiking competition attracts hundreds.

More than 600 athletes took part in the 12th edition Cross-Trail Calas de Bolnuevo. This extraordinary hiking event combines sport tourism with the idyllic landscape of Mazarron. Organised by the Bahia de Mazarron Sports Club on Sunday morning, 25 January, the event brought together hundreds of athletes, supporters and spectators around the natural enclaves that make up the coast of Mazarron.
The coastal challenge attracted hundreds of athletes
At 10:00am, the XII Cross-Trail Calas de Bolnuevo started with two levels of participation. A 16-kilometre trail or an 11-kilometre hike route. Participants began their journey from Bolnuevo, Erosions, and followed a route that took them through the lush coastal landscapes of Mazarron, as well as coves.
The 16-kilometre trail had an elevation gain of 385 metres, and passed through Mazarron’s coastal areas including the beaches of Puntabela, Piedra Mala, Amarilla, Cala Leño, and Hondon del Fondo. The non-competitive 11-kilometre route had an elevation of 327 meters and went through beautiful coves in the municipality.

This event has become a pillar of support for Mazarron hikers and runners who are looking to challenge themselves, compete, and enjoy the beautiful weather and coastal views. The events also help promote sports tourism for the region. Sports tourism is a big draw for tourists in the off season and provides a revenue boost for local businesses.
The XII Cross-Trail Calas de Bolnuevo was a success, with a large number of participants, enthusiastic supporters and a stunning landscape in which the athletes took part. It has been a successful combination of sports and nature at the Costa Calida hotspot Mazarron.
