Marbella hosts a new art show that invites you to explore what’s not there. Emptiness is a heavy weight Galeria Isolina Arbulu is proud to announce the opening of a new show by Spanish artist Juan Jose Botella in Cortijo de Nagueles. The exhibition runs until June 13, and explores the notion that absence is just as powerful as present.

Botella uses marble and alabaster to carve delicate shapes, playing with light and shade. He removes materials to create space and lets air and emptiness be part of the sculpture. His work challenges traditional ideas that sculptures should be heavy and solid. The work feels lighter and more fragile as though floating in the air.

The exhibition is inspired by artists such as Julio Gonzalez and Alexander Calder who explored sculpture using open forms and drawing. Botella is a continuation of this tradition. It shows how stone can become softer, airier and even poetic.

Visitors can view the exhibition From Monday to Saturday Visits are available between 10am and 2.30pm. By appointment, afternoon and Saturday tours are also available. The gallery, located just outside the centre of Marbella in a peaceful environment, is a calm and inspiring space to enjoy art.

Emptiness is a heavy weight It is a thought-provoking and emotional show that will change the way you look at space, shape and what’s left unsaid.
