Construction must start within 30 months of approval. In the tender documents, it is stated that the school should be open within 3 years of the building permit being granted.
Marbella’s growing Swedish community
The demand for Scandinavian schools on the Costa del Sol is steadily increasing. Marbella’s Swedish population has increased significantly. According to the 2026 report of the municipality, Sweden is one of the nations with significant increases.
Svenska Skolan Marbella was founded in 2003 by a small group of founding members. In 2013, the club moved to larger premises located in La Alzambra, Nueva Andalucia. Svenska Skolan Marbella has three padel courts and a sports hall. There is also a pool, football pitch, and a sporting arena. The course is taught in Swedish, English, and Spanish
There are other Swedish schools along the coast. Svenska Skolan Costa del Sol, located in Fuengirola, has been in operation since 1969. It is the largest Swedish school outside of Sweden. A third option, Swedish International School serves families living in Estepona. Skolverket is the Swedish National Agency for Education and approves all three schools.
