Sarah Almagro is a Marbella adaptive surfing star who has signed an innovative sponsorship agreement with MarcaMarbella. This deal will ensure support through 2028.
The deal is not only a vital financial backer, but it also gives adaptive surfing visibility as a sport which has not yet been added to the Paralympics. ‘It’s taken over a year, but I finally have my city’s backing,’ Almagro said, brimming with excitement. ‘It’s more than money. It is a powerful hand that helps our sport.
MarcaMarbella’s programme is for individual federated athlete who require assistance to compete. Almagro’s deal shows Marbella’s commitment to the local talent. This sponsorship will cover her busy schedule as she prepares for important events. She will soon be heading to Gran Canaria, where she will train on a challenging surf wave in preparation for the first ever national championship. ‘It’s a tricky wave to ride,’ she commented, showing her focus on mastering it to ready for the competition.
Her calendar also includes the prestigious Pantín Classic in late August, a staple in her sport, followed by a potential shot at the world championship selection in late September, depending on confirmation of dates and her national team call-up. Almagro, with MarcaMarbella’s backing, feels confident and motivated. ‘Now, we just await the results ahead,’ she said.
Sarah was debilitated by meningococcal disease and complications that changed her life. All 4 of her limbs were amputated, as well as her kidney.
Since then, she is now ranked number two in world parasurfing. This sponsorship will allow her to reach the top podium.
