Marbella police car crashes into motorcycle during high-speed chase


On Monday night, a POLICIA Nacional police car collided with a motorcyclist in the middle of Marbella during a high-speed chase.

The accident occurred around 8.45pm in the heavily-trafficked intersection between Avenidas Arias Maldonado, and Ricardo Soriano.

Onlookers sent images to @marbellasequeja of the car spinning to a stop down the pavements and steps leading to the highstreet shops while bystanders hugged or fell to the ground.

According to sources the officers were chasing an alleged motorcyclist that had stolen a timepiece when the police car lost control.

Although the condition of the injured motorcyclist remains unknown, emergency services from the 112 Andalucia Service rushed on the scene.

Images from the scene show the aftermath of the collision. The incident was witnessed by shocked pedestrians as it unfolded.

The intersection at which the accident occurred is a major thoroughfare that connects key areas of Marbella. It is usually busy in the evenings with local traffic and tourists.

Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a chase and the subsequent collision.
