Marbella residents can now enjoy free bus travel until 2027. This announcement is for those who are registered as residents of the town. empadronadosFor another two years, you can continue to use local buses for free.
Marbella City Hall launched the free bus service in 2019, and it has been one of most popular initiatives for the public in the area. Since then, over 91,000 residents of Marbella have registered for a mobility card which gives them unlimited travel in the town’s buses. The council claims that 90 percent of the adult population now uses the service.
The blue cards that are used by the majority of residents will automatically renew. Golden cards for those over 65 remain valid forever. Local travel should be easier, more affordable, and less harmful to the environment.
Up to now, the cost of the free bus program has cost the municipality around 28 millions euros. The free bus programme has resulted in a reduction of traffic, reduced family fuel costs, as well as encouraging more people to take public transportation over their private vehicles.
The extension will continue to save money and provide convenience for the expats of Marbella. If you have not applied yet, you can do so in your nearest town hall. Marbella will continue to support its residents and promote sustainable lifestyles on the Costa del Sol with this measure until 2027.
