A COURT clerk from Marbella has stolen €19 million in cryptocurrencies that were seized from scams and internet fraudsters.
The crypto assets were confiscated by the Policia Nacional in September last year and made available to the Marbella court that investigated the case.
The wallets were empty when the Office of Asset Recovery and Management of the Ministry of Justice tried to convert the cryptocurrency into euros in January.

Someone had stolen €19 million in virtual money, and it was someone from within the department.


Investigators managed to capture a court clerk of Administration of Justice who had been involved in the original investigation.
The clerk was arrested before Easter, and he confessed the theft.
The suspect was a civil servant who had passed numerous exams and background checks and was regarded as a hard worker.

He could have accessed the money if he had intercepted the letter containing the passwords for the crypto wallets, when it was sent to the Marbella Court.
The police opened an investigation in order to find the person who stole the crypto but they ended up at many dead ends.
The investigators did find a clue, which was deemed to be fundamental.
The clerk described himself as an investor in crypto and purchased digital storage for wallet passwords.
Investigators confirmed suspicions by searching his house.
