Marbella’s council announced an enhanced safety plan during the months of July and august, which will include a local police unit with a specialised team and approximately 50 firefighters.

Councillor José Eduardo Díaz unveiled the operation, stressing its goal to “provide comprehensive coverage from early morning to late at night, upgrading surveillance and response capabilities for any incidents that may occur.” He said that emergency services are working together to make sure that everyone is able to enjoy the 27-kilometre coastline of the city safely during peak season.

For this season, there will be over 50 lifeguards, two ambulances, as well as facilities along the entire coastline. The introduction of the pilot local police unit this year will see eight officers patrolling six quads. The main purpose of the unit will be to enforce beach rules, including addressing issues like unrestrained dogs, fishing beyond permitted hours or areas, unauthorised vending on the street, and any other activity that could disrupt public harmony.

Around 20 Civil Protection Officers will also be based in La Bajadilla, equipped with buggies or quads. They will provide backup to rescue operations, medical interventions and other tasks. A dedicated firefighter aqua rescue team will also be operating from 8am to 13pm every day. The team is made up of a skipper, a rescuer, and two jet skis. They will respond to emergencies when the general coverage of lifeguards is low. With 28 firefighters trained in underwater inspections, buoy placements and hazardous object removal, the Underwater Unit is responsible for inspecting underwater pipelines.

Díaz mentioned that the operation’s success depends on close coordination among municipal services and collaboration with the Guardia Civil’s maritime unit, which has already conducted joint operations to regulate jet ski use and ensure compliance with navigation rules.

The councillor encouraged the public to call the local police on 092 and report all incidents, regardless of how minor they may be, to ensure a swift and effective response.
