DAVID Chipperfield has confirmed that the design of the Torre del Puerto de Malaga skyscraper has been updated significantly.
Chipperfield has taken the project in a different direction. Originally led by Malaga-based Malaga architect Jose Segui (who resigned from the project at the end 2024), the original vision was shifted under Segui’s leadership.
In a recent private presentation at Malaga City Hall, attended by Mayor Francisco de la Torre, Chipperfield revealed that the tower, planned for the Levante Dock, will now rise to 144 metres – up from the originally planned 116 metres.

The project, which was initially approved in 2023 and included 378 rooms, is now expected to be completed by 2023.
The final room count has not yet been determined but it is expected to range from 350 to 390.

The shape of the building is one notable design change.
Chipperfield’s concept is a minimalist, rectangular design, while Segui’s original vision was a cylinder.
The light materials will be inspired by the bright lights and wide skies of Malaga. Chipperfield places a high priority on environmental sustainability. He also aims to reclaim the public spaces of the city.
The architect, as part of a broader redevelopment project, proposed revitalizing Dique de Levante and improving the Paseo de la Farola, in the Malagueta District, which is a Site of Cultural Interest.
The plans include six large public spaces with landscaped green areas, and a convention centre that can accommodate 2,000 people.

Marina San SL will be leading the project, which is overseen by the Qatari investment fund Al Alfia. Hesperia has partnered with Marina San SL to develop the hotel.
The final design will officially be unveiled on the 6th of March.
With an investment exceeding €120 million, developers anticipate project completion and returns by 2028.
