Malaga has quickly established itself as the most important technological hub on the planet, driving almost half of the digital job market in the region.
Currently, the province is seeking 1,532 tech professionals, representing 45 per cent of the 3,400 tech vacancies across Andalusia, according to data from Fundación Telefónica’s Employment Map. Malaga is the most in-demand region for software development, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence roles, followed by Seville, with 1,191 vacancies.
The rise in tech professions just goes to show the importance of initiatives like Campus 42 Malaga, launched by Fundación Telefónica in 2022. The continuation of the program for three more years was confirmed on Monday, July 21 through an agreement renewed with the Malaga Council, Andalusian Regional Government and Provincial Council.
Campus 42 Malaga in the Tabacalera complex offers a revolutionary, free tuition program that does not require any prior programming knowledge. Since the programme’s inception in February 20, 2022, 1,565 people have begun training. 750 of them are currently enrolled. Students who successfully complete seven levels of the 21-level programme, which can be achieved in 12-14 months by committing seven hours per day, are guaranteed employment. Many students choose to continue specializing, because higher salaries come with deeper expertise.
Antonio Sanz, of the Junta de Madrid, praised Campus 42 Malaga for its “disruptive” and innovative learning model. He said that it had a 100 percent employability rate among students who completed the core curriculum. He emphasized Malaga’s growth as a “major technology city” in Spain, and Europe.
Francisco Salado – President of the Provincial Council – praised Campus 42 as it has helped Malaga become a leader in Europe for knowledge and technology industries. He highlighted the Council’s support of students from throughout the province through the provision of accommodation at La Noria. This ensures equal opportunities for all students, regardless where they live.
Malaga tech could be a good solution for those readers who have friends who are struggling to choose a career.
