Malaga Airport Set For Massive Redevelopment.  AENA have confirmed plans for the expansion and redevelopment of Malaga Airport with a €1.5 billion investment.

Malaga Airport Set For Massive Redevelopment

The airport operator AENA has today confirmed that a €1.5 billion investment Malaga Airport’s expansion and renovation will proceed.  The size of the existing terminals is set to almost double, going from 80,000 square metre to 140,000.  A new docking area will be built for flights that are not from the Schengen Zone, with its own passport check facilities. More docking positions will be made available at the main terminal to allow passengers to access the air bridges. Baggage handling facilities will also be upgraded.

AENA released plans of the Malaga Airport improvements.

More Passengers and More Retail Space

The expansion will increase the number travellers who can use Malaga Airport. This will allow 36 million people to pass through each year.  Retail and commercial spaces will increase by 41 percent.  New aircraft taxi lanes will be built to connect the runways with the parking apron, which will improve plane movement around the airport.

The development of plans for this project begins in September 2026. Construction work will take place between 2027-2031.
