Malaga Airport could be affected by strikes in France

Malaga Airport is expected to experience delays or cancellations of flights The strike of French air traffic controllers is expected to affect flights from the 7th-10th October 2025.  Ryanair has warned that hundreds of thousand of passengers will be affected by the strikes throughout Europe. Flights departing from the UK will be the worst affected.

Michael O’Leary, the boss of Ryanair, says there are up to 600 flights per day. There is a possibility that flights from the UK into Europe, and Malaga included, will be cancelled.  He told Sky News that flights to Malaga could be cancelled.  It’s estimated that about 100,000 passengers have their flights cancelled without reason.  On any given day at the moment, we (Ryanair) operate about 3,500 flights and about 900 of those flights cross over French airspace – and about two thirds of those, around 600 flights, are cancelled every day there’s an air traffic control strike.”

The French strike will affect all airlines, including Ryanair, Easyjet and British Airways.  Air traffic controllers protest about their pay and working conditions.

93.6 Global Radio Please find below some answers to commonly asked questions.

Can you receive a refund in the event of a flight cancellation?

Yes. Regulations of the European Union require airlines to refund you for any unused portions of your ticket or reroute you as quickly as possible to your destination. You can also rebook a flight for a future date with some airlines at no additional cost.

Do you receive compensation if your plane is delayed?

Because they are not directly liable for the disruption, airlines are not required to pay the extra cash compensation stipulated by EU regulations.

What happens if you are stranded away from home?

EU regulations stipulate that an airline will be liable for paying for hotel costs and other expenses for passengers stranded in the event of an EU flight cancellation or an EU airport closure, until an alternative flight is available. Keep all receipts if your airline tells you to purchase your own food or accommodation. Also, keep these costs to a minimum before making a complaint when you return to Britain.

What about package holidays

Passengers on package holidays stranded at a destination are legally required to be rescued by their tour operator. In most cases, customers will be able to stay at their original hotel or be transferred to a comparable one on a half board or all inclusive basis. It depends on the terms and conditions of the operator.
