MALAGA Airport is open and operating with ‘relative normality’ this morning, but getting to the terminal might prove to be challenging.
While the runway is still active, with 430 scheduled flights for today, Storm Leonardo has put pressure on the road network that surrounds the Costa del Sol Hub.
The drive to the airport is the greatest risk for holidaymakers, not the flight.

The DGT has reported ‘difficult’ driving conditions on the main A-7 coastal motorway – the key artery for millions of tourists and residents.
The surface water is dangerous and there are delays in San Pedro Alcantara, El Velerin and Nueva Andalucia.
The situation is even worse for those who come from the interior.
Heavy rains have forced the closure of 9 secondary roads across the province. This has effectively isolated towns.
Closed are the A-7150 at Casares, A-366 at Guaro, A-369 at Algatocin, and MA-8302 Estepona.

In a crucial update for commuters, the C-1 Cercanias line – which connects Fuengirola and the coast directly to the airport terminal – is currently Running.
The safest route for travelers this morning is to take the highway.
The C-2 inland route connecting Malaga and Alora is now completely closed.
Renfe, the Spanish railway company, has stopped all high-speed AVE (Alora) trains between Malaga ad Madrid. There is no rail service to Madrid.

Although the Helity helicopter connection to Ceuta is cancelled because of the strong winds in the Strait, the airport’s operations continue to run smoothly.
