Mafia members behind Costa Tropical fatal migrant boat have been identified
According to a Guardia Civil press release, Spanish and Morrocan law enforcement agencies have identified five members of an alleged human trafficking gang. They were accused of being involved in the death of six people aboard a small boat. Their bodies washed ashore in Gualchos-Castell de Ferro last March. One of the criminals was already arrested.
The statement stated that “the investigations led to the conclusion that the migrants embarked from Al Hoceima Beach the morning before on a boat with three engines, crewed by 3 people.”
From that moment, the exchange between the Guardia Civil (Spanish police) and the Moroccan Gendarmerie (Moroccan Gendarmerie) was essential to solving the case. The investigators put at the disposal the prosecutor’s office 12 people who remained on the land and could not cross.
It was possible to identify the criminals through their testimony. One of them has been arrested already in Morocco. The four others are still on the run.
17 people, three of whom were minors, crossed the Mediterranean to reach Gualchos de Ferro on 15th March. Three more bodies were pulled from the water by the rescue service hours later.
The mafias use powerful gliders to reach the shore, but they stop short of it and make passengers walk.
