Madrid – Food lovers, brace yourselves. A Chinese restaurant in Madrid has been shut down after health inspectors discovered it had been serving street pigeons disguised as roast duck to unsuspecting diners. The Jin Gu restaurant, located in the capital’s Usera district, is now at the center of a shocking scandal that has alarmed the local community.
Authorities raided the restaurant and uncovered a series of disturbing violations. Among them were plucked pigeons in the kitchen, unlabelled meats of unknown origin, and even a hidden cockroach-infested room behind a false wall. Freezers contained over a tonne of improperly stored meat and seafood, lacking any traceable documentation or temperature control. A bathroom was being used as a storage space, and rat traps were found scattered throughout the premises.

Police believe the pigeons were caught locally on the streets, as there were no records of purchase or legal sourcing. Local residents had raised complaints about foul smells and unsanitary practices, prompting the investigation.

The restaurant has been ordered to close immediately, and its owner is under official investigation for serious food safety violations.
This incident has triggered outrage online, with many questioning food safety standards and restaurant inspections in the area.
