Luismi's injury setback could force Malaga CF into transfer market move

Malaga CF will consider whether or not to sign a Luismi replacement after the midfielder suffered a severe facial injury which will keep him away for several month.

The Cadiz player, who was born in Cadiz, suffered multiple fractures after a clash between him and teammate Javi Montero during the Saturday 1-1 draw against Eibar.

Malaga’s only specialist defensive midfielder will be out of action for three months.

SUR consulted sources who suggested that the club might have no choice but to move in the transfer market, if the absence is prolonged.

There are few options

Sergio Pellicer relied on makeshift fixes in the past. But the loss of such a player is seen as significant, especially in away games where defensive balance is essential.

The club could also look outside the club for players, such as academy graduate Izanmerino and reserve team members. Malaga’s January transfer window is traditionally allocated budget, and their squad, which is large, has long-term injuries.

With Luismi sidelined, Pellicer is now missing five players, including Haitam, Ramón, Moussa and new signing Eneko Jauregi, although the latter is close to returning.

Malaga also seeks a winger in order to strengthen its attack. The club must make crucial decisions during the last weeks of this transfer window.
