A MAN and a woman have been arrested in the Barcelona area after committing ‘love hug’ robberies on the Valencia region coast.
The couple, of unknown nationality and age 26, moved about different areas in the Costa Blanca province and Valencia to make it hard to find them.
In the street, the two were mainly targeting elderly people and giving them a kiss or hug as if they already knew them.

They then took jewellery, bags and wallets and, if the victim tried resisting, they used violence.
Policia Nacional reported that 10 thefts were committed in Alicante and three in Valencia.
Between February and June, the crimes were committed.
The couple, who resided in Santa Coloma de Gramanet (Barcelona province), made regular trips south to rob their victims.
At their Santa Coloma house, they found a large amount of jewellery, cash and other objects.
Some of the recovered items do not match any crime reports.
The couple also have an extensive record of ‘love hug’ crimes.
The Policia Nacional reports that similar robberies are on the rise throughout the Valencia region. These perpetrators take advantage of their victims’ trust and vulnerability, mainly older women, in order to steal from them quickly, and then disappear.
In most cases, the female perpetrator of a theft will run to a getaway vehicle driven by her male accomplice.
