Pintura Sedimentaria is an exhibition that brings together more than thirty works by Lin Mo. Finca El Portón in Alhaurín de la Torre provides a unique opportunity to enjoy the work of this Chinese artist. Lin Mo is a Chinese artist who lives in Estepona. He has strong connections to the Guadalhorce town where he recuperated from Covid-19.
His latest exhibition, the result of a collaboration with the Miguel Marcos gallery in Barcelona, fills the Sala Vicente Llinares at Finca El Portón. They bring back memories of landscapes and nature, a sense of identity, and cultural tension. A unique attraction that is open to the public until September 19th.
The display includes a wide range of formats and pieces from 2017 to 2024. The 18-metre-long canvas, which stands out amongst the 30 works on display, invites us “long beyond”. In the acrylic, he visits his homeland but keeps a foot in western culture.
He is not afraid to use drills and knives in the creation of his work. The artist uses unconventional tools to create rich textures, subtle glazes and images that express interior landscapes, nature and tensions between cultures.
The unveiling of Pintura Sedimentaria which included a cello concert, was attended by councillors Manuel López, Andrés García and María del Carmen Molina, as well as the artist himself, people from the art world and local residents.
The Artist
Lin Mo, born 1962 in Harbin (China), studied at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Shenyang, in 1984. In 1990, he arrived at the University of Barcelona, which marked the beginning of his permanent residency in Spain.
In 2011, he released a book. He had solo and collective exhibitions in China and Spain, France, Italy and the United States. The book Travelling to Find Myself tells the story of his two-decade journey around Europe, during which he lived both a personal and artistic experience.

His works are a harmonious blend of east and west, using both bright and subtle colours. He ignores the conventions and strives to create beauty without imitation.
Lin Mo’s creative practices, as stated in exhibit’s catalog, reflects cultural destiny of contemporary Chinese artists: asserting their legitimacy in the Western-dominated global art world while protecting spiritual core of local artistics. Their work is not only valuable because it breaks away from the traditional visual form, but also because it provides methodological inspirations that can be applied to oriental aesthetics.
Lin Mo’s “reverse gaze” creative strategy transforms cultural differences into an innovative force that re-creates artistic subjectivity in the era of globalisation. This artistic exploration is a standout in the European culture landscape, as well as an international foothold of Eastern artistic spirit. Lin Mo’s Pintura Sedimentaria in Alhaurín de la Torre opens a door to deep and enriching intercultural dialogue.
