Storm Joseph’s string winds on Tuesday, 27 January, caused a number of trees to fall along the Costa Tropical in Granada Province.
One of the largest trees was located in the Cerro de la Virgen of Motril. A large Aleppo pin tree blocked both directions of access.
The Motril Town Hall’s Parks and Gardens department cut down the tree with chainsaws to remove it. A large pine fell on the wall, but there were no reported injuries.
In addition to the beaches, flooding was reported in other parts of the city.
AEMET (Spanish state weather agency) has issued a number of warnings, including an Orange alert for wind gusts exceeding 90 km/h. Westerly winds could also exceed 100 km/h in some areas. An orange alert is also given for coastal phenomena, with winds of up to 80 km/h from the southwest and west, and waves of 4 to 6 metres.
Orange alerts are active as long as authorities continue to be vigilant and urge caution.
