King’s Day is the largest and most spectacular party on the Costa del Sol. It’s organized by the Dutch community of Torremolinos every year. Also known as Koningsdag In Dutch, the national holiday celebrates King Willem Alexander’s birthday. In 2025, it will take place Saturday, 26th April as the 27th falls a Sunday.
Torremolinos hosts over 700 Dutch nationals. And on King’s Day they all come out and celebrate. Hundreds of orange-clad people gather in cities and towns all over the country to celebrate Dutch pride, music, food, and dancing.
Why orange? Orange represents unity and pride in the Netherlands, as it is the colour of the royal Dutch family. You’ll often see orange outfits and face paint on top of Dutch flags.
King’s Day celebrates a long-standing tradition. It was called Queen’s Day originally when Queen Beatrix ruled the country. The holiday was first named Queen’s Day in honour of her daughter, Queen Beatrix, when she was head of state.
The official celebrations of the Dutch often include the visit of the Royal Family to a different city each year. However, in Torremolinos it is all about fun and the spirit of community.
King’s Day is a party you won’t want to miss, whether you’re Dutch or just love a good time. This is the best Dutch Party on the Costa del Sol.
