Joyce Gyimah, founder of ADINTRE received British Empire Medal for her selfless work to the community

Joyce Gyimah received the British Empire Medal in recognition of her unselfish work for the community.

Alex Ellis, the Ambassador of His Majesty, presented the British Empire Medal in a touching ceremony to Joyce Gyimah on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

The ceremony took part on the rooftop of the Molina Larios Hotel located in central Malaga, with the stunning backdrop of Malaga Cathedral. Joyce’s unending and selfless dedication to helping the homeless and destitute was recognised by His Majesty King Charles, who commissioned the Ambassador to award her the BEM medal.

Ambassador Ellis told the audience about the work done by Joyce and Adintre, saying that “Joyce decided to start this work because she wanted to share what she has.” She began by feeding them, then gave them love and support. Adintre has assisted thousands of people who are in desperate need, whether they be Spanish or other nationalities. We thank her for this, and especially here at the Malaga consulate. Joyce opened her arms and helped many people.”

Then he read the official award quote: “It’s with great pride that His Majesty King presents you with an honorary British Empire Medal for your outstanding community service and all the wonderful things you do.” Joyce, you are a remarkable person. Congratulations!

Joyce, founder and CEO of the Adintre Foundation and a woman who has dedicated over 20 years of her life to helping those in need with physical and emotional care, thanked God for his help, as well as her husband, team and volunteers. She also thanked her daughters, during a tear-filled, very emotional moment. “I have taken bread from our table in order to give it to those who are more needy, and I apologize.” Sorry for taking your clothes and giving them to the less fortunate. You are my everything. Never believe I didn’t love my children. She said: “Adintre is us all.” I know this because I can see Adintre’s little bits in each of us. Thank you for letting me do my job.

Her dedication has transformed many lives. It was especially beneficial to thousands of British citizens who were vulnerable during difficult times. This solidified her reputation as a respected community leader.

The Adintre Foundation, which operates in Fuengirola, Mijas, and beyond, is a lifeline. It provides food and medicine to over 700 adults and kids at any given time, and distributes clothes. They offer their help to abuse victims, seniors without income, families who face social exclusion, migrants, people facing eviction and those with reduced mobility.
