THEY say revenge is a dish best served cold – and that is exactly what England men’s football team will endeavour to do when they face off against Spain twice in a matter of months later this year.
Both sides will be playing in the same group at the 5th edition UEFA Nations League scheduled to take place from September 2026 to June 2027.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams since the Euro 2024 final, in Berlin. In that match, a Mikel oyarzabal’s late goal shattered English hearts while ensuring a superb Spanish side was crowned the deserving champions.
The first game of the group stages will be played at Wembley early in the autumn. La Rioja is still under the guidance of Luis de la Fuente.
The match will be played on Saturday, 26 September at 7:45 pm local time.
In less than two weeks, England will return to the Bay of Biscay and play the reverse fixture on Sunday 15th November.

The draw for League A group three took place in Brussels on Thursday evening.
Each side will play four consecutive games in late September and early October thanks to an extended three-week-long international break – the first of its kind.
When asked about the draw, England manager Thomas Tuchel replied: “You must forgive me if my full attention is not on the Nations League.”
It appears to be a difficult group. It’s Croatia again, Spain – we need to figure out after the World Cup how we approach this period.”
The Three Lions’ record is poor in the tournament. This tournament was introduced in 2018 by UEFA to try and increase interest in football internationally outside of the usual summer tournament window.
The team finished third in the first season of the tournament, but was relegated into League B by 2024-25.
Spain, on other hand, won the 2023 trophy with a thrilling shootout against Croatia in Rotterdam.
Spain’s Euro 2024 victory meant that they were hot favorites for the 2024-25 competition, but lost out to Portugal in the final.
