Irish Gaelic Footballer clear of attempted murder after glassing an outside Valencia bar

An Irish man was cleared of attempted homicide in 2022 after hitting a male with a drinking glass outside a Valencia pub on Christmas Day.

Gerard Lenihan (41), was found guilty, however, of injuring someone with a dangerous object.

Lenihan, who was born in Ireland, played Gaelic Football and formed a team which lasted for a very short time when he arrived on the Costa Blanca.

The father of two The sentence of 23 months was not served by the offender because it was less than 2 years, and this was his first offense.

Lenihan has also paid nearly half of an €18,500 compensation award to the victim.

Lenihan’s lawyer claimed that his client was suffering from a neurodevelopmental condition and was also under the influence alcohol.

Lenihan attacked outside St.Patrick’s Irish Pub in the Gran Via Marques del Turia, at around 10pm December 25, 2020.

The victim, a 26-year old Argentinian man, was walking outside a bar with a friend and dragging his bike along the sidewalk.

The Argentinian apologized immediately for bumping into Lenihan’s bike, which had just exited the premises.

He grabbed the glass and cut off the owner’s throat, without saying a single word.

Valencia’s Clinical Hospital treated the neck and face injuries of the victim with emergency surgery.

Valencia Policia Local Officers found Lenihan’s clothes and hands covered with blood.

He said at the time the cyclist had pushed him, and he had grabbed a glass to defend himself.

Lenihan, who was originally imprisoned for the seriousness of his injuries, was later released.

He returned to jail for violating the bail conditions by leaving Spain.
