In just one week, Covid-19 cases in a key tourist region of Spain doubled.

According to the SiVIRA CV system, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases has doubled within a week in the Valencian Community – including on the Costa Blanca.

This is the most infections for an entire year. It is also the eighth week in a row that infection levels have increased.

Since mid-August of 2024, the 100-plus mark was not exceeded. This confirms that summer cases are on a regular increase.

The figures for last week were more than 80% higher than those of the week before, when there was a ratio of 65 infections per 100 000 residents.

This trend is in contrast to the lower levels of influenza and respiratory viruses due to higher temperatures.

In Valencian hospitals, the upward trend in Covid-19 is also reflected. The rate per 100,000 patients has increased from 0.6 in one week to 1.9.
