CHILDHOOD CRIME FIGURES ARE WORRIERING

This includes controlling behaviour, intimidation, and contempt.

Physical violence affects 40.5% respondents.

Nearly one third -28.9% – of respondents said that they had been victims of sexual assault.

9037 people between the ages of 18 and 30 filled out a questionnaire that asked a variety of questions about their experiences as children with violence.

If we convert that into a national number, with six and a a half millions people between 18-30 years old, this would mean two million had experienced sexual violence.

Miguel de la Fuente is the coordinator of the Sigma Dos Study. He said: “The Extrapolation can be done in absolute confidence.”

Sira Rego said, “These figures are horrendous and demonstrate that violence is an everyday reality and a systemic behaviour.”

The minister said, “It’s not a matter that can be kept private. It has to become an issue for the government because we have a duty to protect our youth and children.”

Rego says that the survey will take place every two years in order to compare results and determine if policies have been effective at combating the problem.

Mercedes Bermejo a child psychologist said that violence affects the development of children.

She told her. El Pais Newspaper: “It is a condition that leaves visible and invisible marks, which can cause post-traumatic stress or other sequelae.”

It is a condition that affects the development of children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of ways, including their emotional, mental, physical, and neurological development.

Bermejo went on to say: “Violence condition their way of being, of relating, bonding and understanding authority figures.”

“Childhood is a time for children to develop healthy self-esteem and grow up in safety,” concluded the expert.
