One thousand, two hundred kilometres over six days in a tuk-tuk from Chennai to Goa in India – that’s what Talk Radio Europe’s Hannah Murray did alongside 53 other exceptional, entrepreneurial women on 18 tuk-tuks.
The Sisterhood is a group of female leaders and trailblazers who are passionate about raising money for underserved Chennai communities.
The Sisterhood group, in partnership with MMRT42, was on a mission to create a lasting impact in underserved communities in Chennai. The campaign supports three transformational initiatives: Building classrooms for children from underprivileged backgrounds, empowering young women through skills training and addressing the postpartum anaemia of vulnerable mothers.
Driving in India is not without risk. The tuktuks are capable of speeds between 20 kph and 50 kph. On one occasion, Hannah says, ‘We took a wrong turn onto a fast road…in the wrong direction! We were forced to stop the tuk-tuks and push them across the road by hand, while others tried to warn the approaching traffic. Everyone was so nice, cheering us on and taking photos. We were also lucky. Despite eating street food daily, we never got Delhi Belly.
The expedition aimed to support three transformative projects: building classrooms for children from underprivileged backgrounds, providing young women with skill training and tackling postpartum anaemia in vulnerable mothers. £125,000 was collected. Together, they are creating sustainable solutions for underserved Chennai communities.
