Guide to Santa Teresa festivities in La Cala de Mijas


La Cala de Mijas will transform from 15 to 19 October into the center of tradition, music and community spirit. 

The La Cala de Mijas Festivals honour the town’s patron Saint, Santa Teresa de Avila. They combine solemn procession with lively fairs, and they are expected to attract thousands of people for an authentic Andalusian Experience.

Santa Teresa October events: a rich history

Santa Teresa is a celebration that dates back to the 17th Century. It celebrates Saint Teresa, Spain’s copatroness as well as a symbol of strength in spirit. The event, adopted locally in the nineteenth century, reflects the traditional fisherman’s village’s Catholic legacy mixed with Moorish influence. Today, it has evolved into five-day affair which unites all the residents. It is estimated that in 2025 there will be an increase of 15% from the previous year’s attendance, showing its growing popularity. Local historian Maria Lopez saysThese fiestas are living archives of the spirit of our city, preserving traditions that connect generations.

Mijas Santa Teresa calendar: key highlights of each day

The 2025 Lineup opens on 15 October at 7.30pm. A solemn church service and floral offerings will be held at Iglesia De Santa Teresa de Jésus, followed by an accompanied procession through the calles of Marbella and Ronda.

On October 18, a verbena fair returns to Los Olivos Park with live music from Orquesta A-Compás and DJ Fabricio, plus food stalls managed by the local parish.

The climax arrives on Sunday, October 19, at 11am with a romería pilgrimage, featuring decorated carts vying for “best ataviada” prizes and selections for romero infantil y adulto by the festival royalty. 6,000 people are expected to attend over 20 events including free concerts.

La Cala de Mijas Family Festival offers a variety of family-friendly activities

Families love the storytelling sessions, petting zoos and workshops on eco-crafts. They also enjoy the pony rides and bouncy castles. Evening light displays and ice-cream zones ensure that the fun continues until 10pm.

Enjoy a variety of street food including churros, gazpacho and espetos. Ten vendors are serving over 2,000 people. portions All daily using 80 per percent local ingredients. The food zone offers cooking demonstrations and Malaga DO wines tastings.
