Melissa Aldana, Grammy nominated Jazz Mastery brings to Torremolinos

Clarence Jazz Club presents one of its most anticipated shows ever, on Saturday 28th March. The concert starts at 10pm. Melissa Aldana is a Chilean artist who will perform with a stellar lineup that includes pianist Pablo Held and bassist Pablo Menares. Drummer Kush Abadey will also be joining the group. It is her only performance in Iberia during this tour. An intimate evening of contemporary Jazz Excellence awaits you at the Costa del Sol.

The world’s best Santiago

Melissa Aldana was introduced to jazz by her father Marcos Aldana. Marcos is a saxophonist who has a long history of playing the instrument. Sonny Rollins influenced her to switch from alto to tenor saxophone. In 2007, Danilo Pérez spotted her talent and invited her to the Panama Jazz Festival, paving the way for a Berklee College of Music scholarship. She was mentored by Joe Lovano as well as George Garzone and Greg Osby.

Free Fall, her 2010 debut album, showcased a fluid technique and innovative compositions. In 2013, she was the first woman to win the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. Judges included legends such as Wayne Shorter and Branford Maralis.

Blue Note wins Grammys, and Grammys for Blue Note

Aldana’s 2014 album Melissa Aldana & Crash Trio on Concord Jazz earned widespread praise. Later releases continued to explore bold themes. Her 2019 Visions Project, inspired by Frida Káhlo, received a Grammy nomination in the category of Best Improvised Solo Jazz on “Elsewhere”. She co-founded ARTEMIS – an all-female group – and contributed to their acclaimed Blue Note debut in 2020.

The signing of 12 Stars with Blue Note, in 2022, was highlighted by a Grammy-nominated “Falling” solo. Echoes of the Inner Prophet was her 2024 album, which paid tribute to Wayne Shorter. Most recently, Filin (released February 2026 on Blue Note) delivers exquisite ballads rooted in Cuba’s filin tradition, featuring collaborations with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Peter Washington, and Kush Abadey—plus guest Cécile McLorin Salvant on select tracks. Critics praise its emotional depth and elegant story-telling.

Do not miss this intimate performance

Aldana is a saxophonist who has been rated among the best in the world on numerous occasions by DownBeat Magazine. He blends tradition and innovation, captivating audiences everywhere from New York’s Village Vanguard Festival to major festivals. Tickets, priced between €40 and €50, remain available for this 10pm start at Clarence Jazz Club, Calle Danza Invisible 8, Torremolinos.
