Age Concern’s Good Friday

Good Friday Age Concern

On Good Friday, Age Concern Fuengirola and Mijas celebrated Easter with a lunch of fish and chips and live music by Barry Mac.

130 clients enjoyed a two-course lunch and transport for just €15. This was part of the social club activity of the charity, which provides older adults with a supportive environment as well as companionship by sharing meals. During the event lucky winners received Easter hampers along with Easter eggs and themed goodies.

It’s a long-standing tradition to eat fish on Fridays, but why is that? Fish is eaten on Fridays because of the tradition that dates back to ancient times when Christians abstained from eating meat, especially during Lent. This was done in memory of Jesus’ crucifixion.

Fish became popular as a substitute because it was considered an acceptable protein source during periods of fasting. This practice reflects also the symbolism of fish in Christian teachings, and is connected to the biblical story of Jesus’ sacrifice.

Age Concern Fuengirola, Mijas & Benalmadena offer a calendar of events throughout the year. Visit their website for more information. www.ageconcernfym.com.
