Genesis GV60 – quiet refinement that would put a library to shame

Genesis is the first book of the bible – it was also a rock band to those of a certain age – and means the origin, creation, or beginning of something. I’m fairly sure that the bible had no influence on Hyundai’s decision. Genesis is a good name, though.

If you excuse the pun, the company launched in Europe only in 2021. It still has some way to go, especially when compared with the time that it took Lexus and Toyota to establish themselves. Genesis’ sales numbers in Europe may not be impressive, but in the scheme of things five years isn’t much time.

The company has unveiled a new performance vehicle, the GV60 Magna. They are also moving toward more advanced electric and hybrid vehicles. GV60 was the first Genesis vehicle to be designed as an electric car from the ground-up. There are many things to commend about this model, including its very useful kilometre/mileage across all versions, and the sensible, rather than exhaustive, list of available options. The premium quality of all Genesis models is unmatched by other car manufacturers.

Three versions are on offer – Pure, Sport and Performance – with prices starting from €62,568/£54,115. Power outputs are from 229PS to 490PS, with times ranging from 7.8 seconds up to just 4 seconds for the benchmark of 62mph. The standard equipment is outstanding and includes heated steering wheel and seats, as well as powered, heated, and folding door mirrors. Other features include navigation, keyless start and entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, wireless charging for phones, dual zone climate control, power tailgates, automatic lights and wipers and smart cruise.

Interior space is good, even though the rear seat is slightly cozier than other rivals. The super-comfortable and supportive quilted seating offers good support and adjustment. And the entire interior exudes premium quality. This writer thinks the GV60 looks good from the outside. It’s not one of those formulaic cars that are so common in showrooms these days.

The refinement on the road is excellent, and my GV60 had been the leading-in vehicle. Pure The handling and overall performance is not disappointing. It isn’t a sports vehicle, but provides all the features you require with the bonus of comfort. The GV60 is a great choice for those who want a EV that will make them think.
