A team of chefs broke the record on Wednesday, December 17 for the largest number of pizzas ever placed in a single line. The event, which was held near Los Boliches’ Monumento a la Peseta, raised vital funds for AVOI – an association that supports children undergoing cancer treatment.
30 pizza chefs and 5 pizza ovens
The culinary feat began at 10am along the Paseo Marítimo Rey de España. For the title, 30 professional pizza-makers, including many from Italy, Spain and other parts, worked tirelessly in five ovens. They surpassed the previous record set by Dubai a year before, of 2,059 slices. By the end the day, they had built an impressive line that stretched 700 metres along the promenade.
The initiative was led by local restaurateur Antonio Pucci, an Italian pizzaiolo who has lived in Fuengirola since 2001 and owns the popular Pizzería Antonio Pucci on Calle Marbella. Pucci, in collaboration with Apoza and the company Apoza orchestrated this massive effort. It’s not his first Guinness victory. In 2011, he set the world record for the longest pizza, measuring 1,141.5 meters. He’s also held several other charitable records, all benefiting good causes.
All proceeds will go to the Child Cancer Charity
AVOI received 100% of the proceeds generated by pizza sales. Ana Mula is the Mayor of Fuengirola. She expressed great pride in the spirit and support shown by her city for projects which are charitable.
“It was a massive logistical effort,” said Fernando Vázquez of Apoza, “but knowing it benefits the children at AVOI made every meter worth it.” The record attempt attracted huge crowds. The sunny promenade was transformed into a massive celebration for Spanish generosity and solidarity.
Families and other locals gathered to watch and cheer on the pizzaiolos as they baked the margheritas. They also purchased slices of these freshly baked classics. The Mediterranean Sea and the aroma of pizza dough, tomato sauce, melted mozzarella created a festive atmosphere.
This unique event showcased Fuengirola’s vibrant community and its love of Italian cuisine, but it also demonstrated the power of coming to together for a worthwhile cause. It proved once again that when passion for food meets compassion towards others, great things can happen.
