The second edition of this swimming competition will see 500 swimmers from all over Spain compete.
Mayor Ana Mula and Fuengirola-born Olympian María de Valdés, the event’s namesake, announced on Friday that the second open water swim will take place this summer, on August 30, with the San Francisco beach as starting point.
The Fuengirola Swimming Club will organize two categories for the public: 300 meter and 800-meter swimming events. Earlier that morning, the professional category will start up the day, with a 3,500 meters swim that will be binding for the Copa de España.
Ana Mula, the Mayor of Fuengirola said that Fuengirola was a perfect city to host any high-level sporting events. “Fuengiroleños support and admire María de Valdés, one of our most international athletes. What better honor to give her than to name an event in her honour?”.
For swimmers – amateur or professional – that want to sign up, registration for the event will be open in the upcoming weeks at the Andalucía Swimming Federation’s website. The maximum number of participants has increased this year from 300 up to 500.
