Fuengirola police has increased traffic checks in the city at different times to ensure road safety.
The tighter controls are intended to reduce recklessness and enforce traffic regulations.
Over the weekend 20-21st June, officers conducted extensive checks, leading to numerous situations being reported. Of the 1,601 vehicles inspected, 26 drivers were given fines for speeding. The authorities also found five cases of drunk driving and five cases involving drugs.
In addition, five vehicles were found to be lacking an ITV (vehicle safety certificate), and three drivers had expired licenses. Three others did not have valid insurance. The other reasons for booking drivers include two parking incidents on pedestrian pavements; two drivers who did not wear seatbelts; one instance of failing to stop in a pedestrian crossing.
The local police have stated that these controls are part a continuous effort to prioritize road safety and to prevent accidents caused either by unfit drivers or non-compliant cars. Residents and tourists are reminded to pay attention to the increased police presence in Fuengirola and adhere to the traffic rules to ensure everyone’s safety.
