Installing new speed bumps

Fuengirola has improved safety on its promenade along the seafront by installing three new pedestrian raised crossings in Arroyo Real, near Stella Maris Hotel, Carvajal and Torreblanca.
Torreblanca’s crossing will be constructed by the same company upgrading the drainage system of the area. These additions will increase the total number of raised crossings on the Paseo Marítimo to ten, aimed at slowing cars down and making the street safer.
The pedestrian crossings were designed to combat the constant speeding problems in the 30 km/h zone, which are often ignored by drivers on two- and four wheeled vehicles. A tragic accident that occurred during Easter week brought to light the need for better safety measures. An unlicensed drunk driver was driving at an excessive speed and lost control. He veered on a terrace of a restaurant, killing two people, while injuring 10 others.
Fuengirola’s local police has intensified its random citywide checks to combat speeding and drunk driving. They also target seat belts, child restraints, mobile phone distractions, and other safety issues. Along with the new traffic signs, there are also fixed and mobile cameras that highlight speed limits.
