The eighth year of Fuengirola’s ‘A Caballo’ equestrian day is set to gallop into the town centre on Sunday, September 20, to offer a full afternoon of horse-drawn spectacles, competitions, and parades from noon until 10pm.
The event will take place across key central venues, including Plaza de la Constitución, the surrounding area of Plaza Reyes Catolicos, and Avenida Condes de San Isidro. Highlights of the event will be thrilling equestrian displays, a harness and costume competition, an Amazons’ Parade, the 47th Exhibition of Carriages as well as the second International Traditional Harness Competition, in memory of Jose Luis Martin Lorca.
Organised by the local Hípico Committee volunteers, the day celebrates Fuengirola’s deep-rooted passion for all things equine. “A Caballo continues to solidify its place in Fuengirola,” said Hugo Ruiz, president of the Peña Caballista. It’s becoming a feature of our town with years of dedication. The Carriage Exhibition is now in its 47th year, making it the second-oldest event in Andalucia behind Jerez. This year we are taking it to the next level by making it an international event.
The competition will include international judges, as well as confirmed entries from Portugal and Chile. Ruiz stated that the goal of the event is to preserve tradition and keep Fuengirola’s identity centered around horses.
From noon onwards, the carriages are going to parade along a route that is visually stunning, passing by the Paseo Maritimo and other iconic landmarks of the city. This year, the manoeuvrability tests will be held in the bullring.
Centro Hipico Dana, and Centro de Equitacion El Ranchito are responsible for the coordination of the equestrian events.
