Fuengirola Fire Department launches its Annual Inspection Plan. It examines hospitality businesses such as restaurants for potential fire hazards.
These actions are part of the routine annual duties that firefighters perform, including over 1,000 other tasks like hydrant inspections and commercial property assessments. Inspections are meant to improve fire prevention awareness, not to impose penalties. According to the council’s goal, it is not to fine people, but rather to identify and correct deficiencies, to inform owners, to ensure that they take corrective actions.
In the plan, published on the municipal agenda at the beginning of each year, establishments with potentially dangerous equipment are assessed, preventive and correctional measures are reviewed, and first-response emergency firefighting gear is checked. These visits enable firefighters to strategise possible responses to potential fires.
In accordance with building code standards the inspections will concentrate primarily on fire suppression system, such as extinguishers. gas installations and thermal blankets. They have so far inspected 25 venues this year. When they do not comply, there are recommendations made, like extinguishers that are based on the amount of oil in extractor hoods.
According to the council it’s all about readiness and prevention, mixing proactive visits to business establishments with training for fire officers to know what to do in case of an emergency.
