Plaza de la Constitución in Fuengirola is hosting the 15th year of the Fuengirola Business and Entrepreneurial Women’s Fair with stalls highlighting the town’s businesswomen who are making a go of it with their enterprises.

Association of Small and Medium Enterprises of Fuengirola and Mijas is a group of small business owners that was organized by Cepyma. They were the first in Malaga to help these businesses start up. ‘This association already has 48 years of history in Fuengirola and Mijas. This here is just a small example of the many, here mostly women, that we help turn business dreams into reality,’ says Ana María de la Torre, president of Cepyma.

Among the stalls, there are examples of some of the most enterprising spirits from the two towns, including dressmaker Raquel, who says, ‘Cepyma is a great window of opportunity for those of us trying to build our business. I am a dressmaker and teach dressmaking. The people who attend the classes in person or online value the opportunity to learn a new profession. They also feel more useful and have new opportunities.

One stall specializes in keyrings made with Playmobil collectible characters. In Spain, Playmobil is not only popular with children. ‘I sell more to online buyers abroad, but here a little too.’ Between just €4 and €5 a piece, the keyrings are amazingly cheap – just ask any toy collector.

The next stall is an artist that makes wedding fascinators, as well as beautiful gifts and watercolours depicting emblematic places in Fuengirola.

Nearby is an illustrator who creates children’s books in English and all kinds of gift ideas, each of them unique and absolutely charming. Lena, whose business it is, explains, ‘Cepyma has helped a lot promoting the business and providing me with the contacts needed.’

Visitors also enjoy a business that provides advice on taking care of yourself, particularly the skin and using make-up products made with natural non-toxic ingredients. ‘People can come and be made up in the moment. Other times, we can come directly to our customers in the Escuela of Belleza Malaga.

Cepyma’s support and the many stalls on display at the fair show how the women in Fuengirola & Mijas have been able to move forward with ideas and initiatives.
