Freelancers are in demand again in Southern Spain


Costa del Sol is a hotbed for freelancers.

It’s not just jobseekers catching a break in Andalucia lately – the self-employed are smashing records.

In March, there were 2,401 new autónomos (freelancers) joined the ranks in Andalucía, a +0.4% increase that accounts for nearly 20% of all new self-employed workers in Spain that month.

That brings the regional total to a record-breaking 584,829 autónomos – the highest of any Spanish community, a title Andalucía has held since May 2021.

Andalucia, in fact, has added 8,415 more freelancers since March 2024. That’s a growth of +1,5% within a year. Nationally, there were 36,297 new autónomos, with Andalucía contributing almost a quarter of that growth.
