A fire broke out late this Wednesday night near Tivoli World amusement park in Benalmádena, with flames reported in two separate spots on a grassy area adjacent to the park’s northern boundary, close to the roller coaster. Residents and tourists in the area were alarmed by the incident.
The fire was quickly extinguished by emergency responders. The fire did not spread to the interior of the park, and there was no reported damage to any rides or structures. No injuries have been reported.
Tivoli has been closed as of 2020. It was one of the area’s most popular attractions for families. Former employees and volunteers have been maintaining the grounds of Tivoli World since its closure. They have cleaned the site, prevented vandalism, and taken care of the peacocks, as well as the natural surroundings.
The timing coincides with an announcement by local authorities concerning a major redevelopment project for Tivoli. The plan involves an investment exceeding €100 million aimed at revitalising and nearly doubling the size of the park. The ambitious project aims to turn Tivoli into a modern entertainment venue that will boost local tourism and economic growth. The cause of the fire has not been determined by the authorities. However, the area is still being monitored to prevent any further outbreaks.
