Anette Skou, who was previously the Coordinator of Foreigners Department at Mijas Town Hall has now dedicated her time to making terracotta statues.
The exhibition ‘Ana´s World’ is an example of this; More than 2 years of work will be exhibited for the first time at the Cultural Centre in La Cala de Mijas from March 7 to 31 organised by the Culture Delegation, Mijas Town Hall.
‘For me, creating terracotta sculptures is an exciting experience where I can express myself freely in a personal world. Since I don’t usually sketch out my ideas before I start working in the studio, I have no idea what I will create. Automatically and naturally, when I have the clay in my hands, the most unexpected figures emerge, always with a content full of poetic messages and symbolic meanings or narrates a story, such as the sculpture made of natural stoneware ‘Once Upon a Time…’ or ‘The Key in black clay,’ these are sculptures that interact with viewers, entering ‘Ana’s World’.
The sculptures are made from stoneware, black or white clay that retains its natural color after firing. Others use acrylics and natural pigments to add colour, depending on the theme.
Anette uses her creativity to do everything she does. ‘I have always been interested in art, I had plans as a teenager to do Fine Arts in my native country, Denmark, but due to life circumstances I settled here with my family on the Costa del Sol and until now I have not had enough time or the opportunity to dedicate myself to this type of creation.’
Soroptimist International Costa del Sol will donate five percent of the sales to projects that help victims of Gender Violence, including recent DANA victims.
The inaugural ceremony will take place at 8pm on March 7th. Everyone is invited.
The exhibition is open from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 10:30pm.
