The glitter of Puerto Banus will meet heartfelt generosity on Wednesday, November 12, when La Sala Bar & Restaurant hosts “Fashion with Heart”, an exclusive charity fashion show and lunch organised by Through Our Eyes to fund life-saving eye surgery for 18-month-old Canadian toddler Jay.

The event from 1pm to 3pm on November 12 at La Sala will feature a runway presentation by Angel Clothing Marbella, a gourmet lunch with free-flowing cava, a high-value raffle and an art auction, with every euro raised going directly towards the €20,000 needed for Jay’s specialist surgery in Malaga.

One in fifty babies is born with a rare condition

Jay was diagnosed with Blepharophimosis-Ptosis-Epicanthus-Inversus Syndrome (BPES), a rare congenital condition that affects one in 50,000 newborns. Without intervention, he would never be able see properly in his right-hand eyelid because he has no working muscle. Malaga’s renowned oculoplastic surgeon Dr Jiménez Medel is one of only a handful of specialists worldwide who performs the complex frontal flap procedure required.

Jay’s desperate parents discovered Through Our Eyes after watching one of the charity’s YouTube Q&A sessions with Dr Medel. The parents contacted Vanessa Rodrigo Jakubowski whose son Emilio had undergone the same surgery at 10 months.

Rodrigo Jakubowski stated that Malaga is one the few places in the world where babies can get the specialist surgeries they need. “Every glass cava, every raffle ticket and this event help a child experience the world as a whole for the first. I’ve seen how this surgery can change a child’s life. Jay’s Parents humbly requested our help in saving their sons’ sight. We won’t fail them.”

The lunchtime spectacular follows the charity’s launch event on 25 October, which raised over €5,000. Since December 2024, Through Our Eyes has collected an impressive €22,000 and now aims to secure the final amount needed for Jay’s operation before Christmas.

Lead sponsor Michael Hölzemann, Managing Director of premium plant-derived health and beauty brand rethemo, added: “At rethemo we see health as the union of efficacy and humanity. Supporting Through Our Eyes is about responsibility and giving back – turning donations into life-changing treatments.”

La Sala is located in Calle Juan Belmonte Puerto Banus. To book, contact reservations@lasalabanus.com or call 952 814 145. Tickets are €45 per person, from which €10 is donated to the Through Our Eyes charity.
