Estepona Council opened a public bid for the private management the Mercado de Abastos Building. The council hopes to turn this 950 square metre landmark into a lively hub for shopping and dining.
The building plan in Calle Villa in Estepona’s old town aims to stimulate local trade and revitalize an area that is undergoing constant revitalisation.
The council imagine a top-quality site that maximises the building’s potential, putting out to concession a 20-year contract with a minimum annual fee of €84,000. The bidder who submits the best and most feasible plan will win. They must also ensure that they manage and upgrade the property to legal standards at their own cost and risk.
Originally constructed in 1949, Mercado De Abastos served as a community market until 2018. In 2018, it underwent a major refurbishment to enhance its shopping and hotel potential. Estepona’s council is committed to revitalizing its historic center, which combines cultural tradition and modern economic productivity.
Business people who are interested in participating have until April 1, 2020 to submit any documentation required. This outsourcing is intended to fix the indoor market as a landmark in the local community by encouraging more foot traffic, and supporting local business. The Mercado de Abastos, with its rich history and prime location, is ready to embark on a new chapter that will bring economic growth and cultural preservation.
